Drop Thirty-Nine

Proverbs 3:5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight” (NASB1995).

My eyes opened and, out of habit, I checked the time. “Almost 6 a.m.? Why am I awakening before 6 a.m.? I went to bed around midnight, I had no alarm set. There is no reason that I need to get up this early,” I told myself. “Seven is better. I will get up at 7 a.m.” Rolling over to my side, I closed my eyes, and quickly returned to sleep.

This happened three times this week. Three times I obstinately returned to sleep and got up when I wanted. Today, I awoke at 5:30 a. m. This time I set a timer, and reset it until I got up at 7 a.m. Then, deep within the words to a recent prayer echoed within. “Your will and not mine. This life is Yours not mine, Lord. Do with it what You will.” Conviction asked if that applies only between the hours of 7 a.m. and midnight.

Heavenly Father,

Forgive us. Just as a child, we lift our broken things to You for repair, yet, take them back before You are finished. May we rise when You wake us, regardless of what the clock says and commit our lives to You. Thank You for healing and us. May we trust You with our whole heart, acknowledge You always, and walk the path You have prepared for us.

In Jesus’ name we pray,

AMEN
