Drop Thirteen

“If I speak with the tongue of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all the mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but I do not have love, I am nothing.” (1 Corinthians 13:1-2 NASB).

She just learned of her diagnosis. A terminal cancer that has spread throughout her body. While driving home, tears welled as she thought of the events that she may miss. Her son’s graduation from high school. Her daughter’s future wedding day. The grandchildren she longed to hold. The traffic light turned red. She quickly stopped, only to be rear-ended. The other driver leaped out of the car and appeared furious. She melted.

What would you share if you were her?

What would you say or do if you were the other driver?

As suggested in my blog last week, I am working to memorize 1 Corinthians 13, commonly known as the “Love Chapter”. To paraphrase verses one and two, whatever is said or done is meaningless if not done with love, and words can be downright annoying. As we seek to memorize and apply the principles of this chapter into everyday life, I pray we love and value those around us. Whether we are in perfect agreement, or differ in opinion, each of us is created in the image of God and are loved by Him. May we learn to love each other well in every situation.

Heavenly Father,

You alone are worthy of all our honor, praise and so much more. The scripture teaches us that You desire a relationship with us. You love us even when we are lost and incapable of loving. Without You, we do not know what love is. For You are love. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, teach us how to truly love one another. Guard our hearts and minds from the deception of the evil one and fill us with truth and love. Thank You for Your gift of grace and redemption. May Your compassion flow through us more each day.

In Jesus’ name we pray,

AMEN
