Drop Twelve

Jesus calls us to love one another. He even stated, “Just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another.” (John 13:34 NASB 1995).

I must admit – Halloween is not my favorite holiday. So many mixed feelings regarding the origins and whether it should be celebrated by Christians. It is, however, a day in which strangers  feel welcome to approach our home, with the expectation of a pleasant experience. I do my best to provide that experience through Reese’s® peanut butter cups, KitKat® bars, The Original Animal Crackers® and even chips for those who venture to come to my lighted front door. Last year, stuffed animals found new homes with many of the costumed children and teens that came our way. Remembering their smiles and the excitement of finding Animal Crackers amidst the chocolates, fills me with joy.

The controversy around Halloween will be ever present. Praying that regardless of your approach to the day you will choose to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit. May we listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit within our hearts and show love to those around us. Thank You for sacrificing Your only begotten Son so that we could be in relationship with You. “…he was pierced because of our rebellion, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on him, and we are healed by his wounds.” (Isaiah 53:5). May we let go of the pain that dwells in the past and accept the healing You offer in our present. May we serve You well in all that we think, say, and do.

In Jesus name we pray,

AMEN

In preparation for all the coming holidays, please join me in committing 1 Corinthians 13 to memory.
