Matthew 6:19-21

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (NASB1995).

I hope that yesterday was a day of true thankfulness. This was our first Thanksgiving Day for two. Yes, we made the turkey, stuffing/dressing, pumpkin pies, green bean casserole, apple salad, mashed potatoes, gravy and even homemade cranberry sauce. After the meal, bones were boiled and created 2 jars of broth, as well as creamy turkey and noodles with mixed veggies (there was a lot of meat still on those bones). Messages of goodwill were sent to and received from family and friends. This year, there was no pressure. No need to subscribe to a social norm. No awkward reunions. No tension. Just a day to truly be thankful and enjoy a wonderful meal – the two of us, together. Today is Black Friday. The day stores promise the best deals of the season. There is only one “best deal” of any season – the gift of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for all of creation and for creating us in Your image. As we head into this Christmas season, may we keep our focus on You. Thank You for raising us up to a new life in Christ. Cleanse our hearts and minds. May our walk with You draw others to saving faith in Christ.

In the name of Jesus,

AMEN
