Drop Sixty-Six
1 Corinthians 10:31
“Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (NASB1995).
What motivates the doing of good? Is it the anticipated praise from people? Is it a rule to follow? Selfish ambition? Selfish or selfless kindness? The lines between good and bad, love and hate, selfishness and selflessness are so fine that often what starts as good intentions to serve others may become selfish kindness. “Do all to the glory of God” is what the verse says. Such a large three letter word – ALL. One of the verses of my poem, “Time or Money” states:
“My husband had kept telling me
he missed me at his side,
But I kept on helping others.
It was a source of pride” (Peace within a Broken Heart, p37).
I still fall into this habit. This trap that turns every perceived good thing to rubbish because of “people pleasing” motivation. Taking every thought captive is hard work. It is worthwhile work. It is God glorifying work that cannot be done without the inward workings of the Holy Spirit.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You. Jesus paid the debt on the cross for all our sins. Through Him we have a change in destination from the path of hell to the hope of Heaven. You know our hearts better than we know ourselves. Cleanse us. May we seek to bring glory and honor to You through all we think, say, and do. And when we don’t, may we humbly return to You for cleansing and begin again.
In Jesus’ Name,
AMEN
