Psalms 119:105

Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path” (NASB1995).

Just awoke with feelings of inadequacy. Imposter syndrome (especially the first day to teach a class at a Christian Writers Conference) can seem greater than truth. Attempting to change my focus, I began to pray.

“Lord, help me to shift my focus from this feeling to … them, my audience. May my words …”

In my heart a question loomed, “Focus on whom? Whose words?”

My mind shifted, “Help me to keep my focus on You, Lord.”

The song “Thy Word” sung by Amy Grant circa 1990 flooded my mind. As I typed this, Jason Gray’s song, “Help Me and Thank You” also came to mind which caused me to smile.

My focus is not to be on the audience, platform, or my work. My focus is to be on Jesus. My audience of The One. Now, “It’s All About You” and “Audience of One” play back in my mind, blending well together.

My heart rate is nearing normal now. The first class taught at this conference is the reason I am here. A friend asked me to sub for her and present her content. One person asked me how it went. Although assured that it went well, with mind racing and heart pounding my response was more “I cannot quite recall, but I am glad it is done.” We laughed together in comradery.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You as always. It is amazing how much everything has changed in the last year. May we look to You to find our focus and wisdom needed for each day. Thank You for sending Jesus and The Holy Spirit to prompt us and keep us on the path You have intended for us. Thank You for teaching us that we need each other. Thank You for everything!

In Jesus’ Name,

AMEN
