Drop Eighty-Six

1 Peter 4:8

“Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins” (NASB1995).

He planned to make dinner. He decided to make meatloaf. He had never made meatloaf before tonight. I have been working at making many of our favorite meals without any genetically modified ingredients and the tension was building around this effort. I love my husband very much and greatly appreciate so many things he does – but making meatloaf is typically my thing.

When I arrived home from work he boastfully stated, “It is already in the oven! I knew what time you would be home, and I already got it done. I knew if you made it, you would make it ‘healthy’ but I wanted to make it ‘my way’ and so I did.

It did not take much to find what he had used. Crackers with bioengineered ingredients, seasoning with added artificial colors and bioengineered ingredients. A lose-lose situation for me. Wrestling with how to handle the situation, the hard line was chosen. I explained my situation and chose not to eat his meatloaf.

After we had both eaten our dinners and some time had passed, we talked again. He thanked me for being honest and shared other things that were bothering him. The evening ended with a better understanding of each other and stronger love.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for working in us. Thank You for helping us to see the importance of being honest and making the hard choices. Help us to love and serve each other well. May we truly love each other deeply.

In the name of Jesus we pray,

AMEN
