Drop Sixteen

1 Corinthians 13: 8 – 13

Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if I there are tongues, they will cease; if thereis knowledge, it will be done away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part; but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known. But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love. (NASB 1995).

He married young and worked hard to pay the bills most of his life. He lived in the moment when he did not have to work. He knew his wife was at home keeping up the house. Dinner would be waiting for him whenever he arrived. He did not think there would be a day that she would not be there. And yet, the day has come. The sense of loss is overwhelming, especially during the holidays. She always arranged family gatherings. She was the glue. Without her, what can he do?

Are you aware of others coping with loss during the holidays and throughout the year?

Are you reaching out, being present in their lives?

If you are the one coping with loss, are you reaching out to others for support?

Are you willing to accept comfort from others?

Father in Heaven,

Thank You for the gift of the Comforter within us. Thank You for using each of us to express Your love. Help us to be mindful and share Your love with others. The world teaches us to let go of childish things as we grow, but You teach us to trust You with the faith of a child. May we see You clearly a bit more each day. Help us to share our joys and aches with each other as we grow to become more like You.

In Jesus Name,

AMEN
